Design products for their next life, using what happened in the field.
Idun.SI™. The lifecycle tracker for circular manufacturing. It follows products after they leave the plant, tracks how they wear and fail, and feeds that back to design, so the next version is easier to repair, reuse and recycle. Where you use MalmStoff.SI, it also points to materials that last longer and recycle better.

The name
Keeper of the apples.
Iðunn looks after the apples that keep the gods young. They are not immortal on their own; they need the fruit. When a giant kidnapped her, the gods began to age, and they went to get her back in a hurry.
Most products are thrown out while they are only middle-aged. Idun.SI follows them after they leave the factory, learns how they wear, and feeds that back into design, so the next version is easier to repair, reuse and recycle.
Iðunn/Old Norse, often read as “the ever-young”
What it does
What happens after the product ships.
Most manufacturers lose sight of a product at the loading dock. Idun.SI keeps following it and brings what it learns back to design.
Follow
Track wear in the field
Collects usage and condition data from products in service and shows how each part and material is ageing.
Redesign
Design for the next life
Shows R&D which parts fail first, which materials get in the way of recycling and what to change so the product can be repaired, remade or upgraded.
Recover
Material loops
Estimates what can be recovered from returned products and what it is worth, so reuse and recycling can be planned before the product comes back.
Connected
It starts from data you already collect.
Idun.SI works from telemetry, service records and return data. Where you have little of it, we start with a sample of returned products and build from there.
It helps you prepare the product data that EU ecodesign and digital product passport rules ask for. It is not legal advice.
Materials
MalmStoff.SI
Where you use MalmStoff.SI, Idun.SI feeds field wear data into it to look for materials and formulations that last longer or recycle more easily.
Field data
Your products
Telemetry, service and repair records, warranty claims and returns.
Where it lands
Your design tools
Findings go to the design and materials teams in the form they already work in.
Use cases
Wherever a product comes back.
We start with the product line that has the highest repair or return cost.
Electronics and appliances
Find which parts end the product's life early and design them to be replaced.
Industrial equipment
Plan remanufacturing around what actually wears, not around a fixed service interval.
Batteries
Track ageing across the fleet and decide what goes to a second life or to recycling.
Vehicles and components
Learn from parts that come back from the road and feed it into the next design.
Packaging and materials
See which material combinations stop a product being recycled and which ones do not.
Product as a service
Price leases and service contracts on real wear data and plan the return flow.
Ways to start
Three ways to work with Idun.SI.
Every company is set up differently, so there is no price list. Tell us what you run and we will propose a starting point.
Study
One product line.
We take one product line, work out what the field and return data say about how it ages, and show where redesign would pay off.
- Scoping with product, service and sustainability teams
- Analysis of the data you have
- Findings on wear, repairability and recyclability
- A recommendation for the next design cycle
Programme
Feedback that keeps running.
Idun.SI is connected to your field and return data and feeds findings to design on a regular basis.
- Run in your own environment
- Connection to field, service and return data
- Regular findings to design and materials teams
- Training for the people who will use it
Portfolio
Every product line.
For companies with many products. We bring them into one view of ageing, recovery and material use.
- All product lines and return flows connected
- Material recovery planning across the portfolio
- Dedicated engineering time
- Roadmap agreed with your leadership
Tell us what you make.
Idun.SI is offered by enquiry only. Tell us what you run and what is driving the work, and we will reply within two business days, usually with a few scoping questions.
